The World's Best Private Islands.
Imagine a vacation on a beautiful tropical island with the people you love and all the sun you can ever wish for… Imagine having absolutely no care in the world, and anything you don’t want around, you can just throw off the island. That’s the life people have on their private islands. Some of them are open to the public, some are closed for anyone but VIP guests, but they are all beautiful beyond words.
Cayo Espanto - Belize
One of the most famous privately owned resort islands in the world, a stay at Cayo Espanto will cost over 2,000$ a night and it's not an easy place to get to either. The island is a key destination for a long list of high profile Hollywood celebs and the world richest people. I guess sometimes they want some time off from their own islands…
Indigo Island – Bahamas
This hidden gem in the middle of the Bahamas is the private getaway for “the richest person in Europe”, French businessman Bernard Arnault. The clientele list of the people who stay here is a closely guarded secret, and there are many theories about business and political meetings that took place here.
North Island - Seychelles
Russian billionaire, politician and industrial tycoon, Mikhail Prokhorov bought this island for 35 million US dollars. The island has four beaches; East Beach, West Beach, Honeymoon Cove, and Dive Beach. You can see them all from the small mountain in the middle of the island, which offers breath-taking views.
The World – Dubai
"The World" is the lesser known artificial island project done in Dubai, built next to the amazing Palm Island. However, unlike the Palm this project had a "small" problem, most of the islands built started sinking back into the ocean. Some islands are still safe for private vacations and are used by people who want a truly "unusual" island holiday.
Skorpios Island – Greece
It is mainly known as the private island of the late Greek shipping billionaire, Aristotle Onassis. It was the site of his wedding to former US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy on October 20, 1968. It is probably the biggest heirloom in the world, as Aristotle's will states that the island must remain in his family until they can no longer pay the upkeep.
Matangi Island - Fiji
One of 3 related volcanic islands, Matangi Island is the most "affordable" resort on this list. Apart from diving, activities on the island include fishing, windsurfing, sailing, water-skiing, and snorkeling. All this for just under 1000 dollars a night!
James Island - British Columbia
This privet island is actually on sale right now and I'm sure it won't be hard to find a buyer for the 75 million dollars gem... The island has picture perfect white-sand beaches and an 18-hole golf course for the lucky person that buys it.
Musha Cay Island – Bahamas
David Copperfield’s 150 million dollar personal island has an impressive magical talent of its own. It can make $40,000 disappear from your wallet every day, for a minimum of 4 days.
Brecqhou Island - Sark
The castle getaway on Brecqhou Island is owned by brothers David and Frederick Barclay, British businessmen and identical twins. The island is separated from Sark by an extremely narrow sound which, according to legend, has only once been traversed by a boat in a high tide. However in reality it is traversed frequently and by luxury yachts during each summer.
Laucala Island – Fiji
The final resting place of Malcolm Forbes, legendary publisher of Forbes magazine, Laucala Island is now owned by Red Bull Boss, Dietrich Mateschitz. His current plan for the island it to make it a private resort which will only be given to a select numbers of people and no one else, no matter how much money they have.
Sampson Cay – Bahamas
The personal playground of John Malone, chairman of Liberty Media, Liberty Global, and Liberty Interactive. The “Darth Vader of business” was reported to have had a change of heart after developing the island into a bungalowed retreat, and many would-be guests are now being diverted to nearby islands. I guess even big boys don’t like to share their toys…
Guana Island - British Virgin Islands
Guana Island is huge, maybe one of the biggest private islands in the whole world. It has 7 white sand beaches, a tropical rainforest and several mountains. It is home to more species of wildlife and plants than any other island studied in the area The Island is owned by American psychiatrist and entrepreneur, Henry Jarecki.
Fregate Island – Seychelles
Fregate is an island-for-rent with accommodations for 16 people, if you can find 16 people rich enough to rent it. This tropical resort has over 100,000 trees on it and indigenous wildlife that are being well protected. Its Anse Victorin beach was voted "The World's Best Beach" by The Times and it's hard to argue with that fact once you get to see this tropical paradise.
